The NDP had a convention this past weekend. Candice Malcolm from Juno news interviewed Jon Kay (writer and podcaster) about this event.
My opinion...this party does not represent me. I didn't hear any discussions about issues that are very concerning to the future of Canada. I think Canada is now in a 2 party political choice.

Speaking about politics can create alot of emotion, but lets get back to the frontal lobe use for critical thinking. Thoughts?

This is what I was saying in one of my earlier posts on the site, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the NDP lost their official party status because of lack of seats last election. And while I am not a supporter of the NDP party I do think that having more than 2 parties in Canada is important to the overall health and equity of our country.

It can be very hard for 2 parties to represent the values and opinions of every group in Canada within the house of Commons, having more than 2 parties not only allows for more ideas to be tabled but it also helps prevents power abuse as if the people are not in favor of how the current two parties are running than there are always other options.

With all this considered though I do not see myself voting outside of the main 2 parties like most people because as most people say, they don't want to "throw away their vote." By wasting it on a party that will not get a seat and then will not represent them. Because personally I would rather have a party that represents most of my values get in rather than allow the apposing party to win.

I think what you’re pointing to is less about one specific party and more about a broader shift in how political parties operate. Conventions used to be places where parties refined priorities based on what Canadians were dealing with in real time. Now, they often feel more like spaces where parties reinforce their existing ideology and messaging. If someone doesn’t already align with that direction, it can feel like there’s no real effort to bring them into the conversation. That disconnect is probably why more people feel politically “homeless” right now.

Also, The idea that Canada is moving toward a two-party reality is interesting, because structurally we still have multiple parties, but functionally it does feel more limited. A lot of voters seem to be making strategic choices rather than values-based ones, which isn’t a great sign for long-term political engagement. When people stop voting for something and start voting against something, it can erode trust in the system as a whole.

I also think it’s worth separating what a party emphasizes internally versus what the public actually hears. At conventions, there may be discussions about policy that just don’t get highlighted in media coverage, but at the same time, perception matters. If the takeaway people are getting is that major concerns aren’t being addressed, then there’s clearly a communication gap somewhere, and that gap has real consequences for public confidence.

I think you are right about the NDP loosing their official status. The party was trying to change the required number of seats to have official status. I never heard the outcome of that in the house of commons. Without official status, the party doesn't get funding.
Regarding "throwing away their vote"... If people vote for the party they want in power, it shows the true representation of where the people are at. Unfortunately, the system itself does not encourage this, especially if 2 parties are very close in the polls. People vote for which party they can tolerate better.
There has been some discussion about changing " first past the post"

There are definitely a lot of flaws in our system with first past the post, but I can't really think of a system that wouldn't leave groups of people unrepresented.

I liked this clip of Pierre's response, his new approach to being level headed and calm draws in a lot more respect from me because it makes him easier to trust.

Interesting video and good response, just hair the click bait thumbnail.

The NDP made a complete fool of themselves with their speaking cards and everything. It was so silly how they made a mockery of themselves on the stage.

When I saw this video I thought, how can they accomplish anything as a party if they are treading so lightly on people's feelings and focusing so acutely on peoples gender, ethnic background and sexual orientation? It was very hard to watch.

The NDP is now nothing more than a bad meme, they will not generate enough support to maintain party status.
