Late response from a Kitchener mayor candidate

RESPONSE
Thanks for reaching out. I really appreciate you taking the time to become an informed voter.
1. Why do you feel you should represent Kitchener?
I’m running because I believe Kitchener can do better. My background is in business, entrepreneurship and hospitality, where I’ve spent more than 20 years solving problems and working directly with people. I’m not a career politician, and I think that gives me a different perspective.
I want to bring more transparency, accountability and innovation to City Hall—and challenge the idea that we should keep doing things simply because that’s how they’ve always been done.
2. Were you encouraged to run?
Yes. I’ve had people over the years encourage me to get involved in politics, but ultimately this was my decision. I reached a point where I felt that if I was going to criticize how things are being done, I needed to be willing to step forward and try to improve them myself.
3. What would you do with an unrestricted $2 million grant?
My first priority would be housing and homelessness prevention. I’d look at things like eviction prevention, transitional housing and other programs that keep people housed before they reach crisis. My first thought was the rent bank for renters on the verge of homelessness with no other option but to ask for assistance in making the current months rent payment.
But I’d also want to make sure we could measure the results. A one-time $2 million opportunity should create a lasting impact—not simply disappear into the operating budget.
Thanks again for your questions.
