I swear every website now tries to make you create an account for the smallest things. You click on an article, try to download a file, or even just want to read comments, and suddenly there's a pop-up telling you to sign up before you can continue. Half the time I don’t even want to use the site again, I just wanted that one piece of information.

It feels like everything online has slowly shifted from being accessible to being locked behind logins. Want to read a forum thread? Make an account. Want to view more than two pages of a site? Make an account. Sometimes they even block you from seeing basic content unless you give them an email address first. And you know most of those emails are just going straight into marketing lists anyway.

That's why when creating Voice4 we decided to make all the information on Voice4 accessible without creating an account, you can do everything except comment on posts.

Personally, I think this just makes more sense. If someone is just browsing or checking something quickly, they shouldn’t have to commit to making an account right away. If they like the platform and want to participate in discussions, then making an account is reasonable. But forcing it from the start just pushes people away.

I’m curious what other people think though. Do you prefer when websites let you browse freely first, or do you not really mind making an account to access things?

This stuff drives me up the wall. I just wanna read one article and boom, sign-up pop-up everywhere. Glad you guys are doing it differently.

It’s like they assume everyone’s gonna stick around anyway. I mean, some people leave instantly and they lose traffic, don’t they?

I mean it makes sense to make people log in to post things, but with so many social media platforms requiring you to make an account just to view stuff it makes me not want to join the website.

Yeah it's a total turn off for me
