Discussion Why are Public Benches so Uncomfortable?

A lot of public benches seem intentionally designed to be uncomfortable. They’re narrow, sometimes oddly slanted, and often have metal dividers that stop people from lying down. Some argue that these designs are part of “hostile” or anti-homeless architecture, an approach cities use to...

    Discussion Planned Obsolescence

The repairability part always bothers me more than anything. When something breaks and you realize the only fix is replacing the entire device, that’s when it feels intentional. If it was actually designed to last, fixing it wouldn’t be so difficult.

Discussion Pros Vs. Cons of City Life

Yeah exactly. That’s why I think people sometimes romanticize rural life a bit too much. It’s peaceful, sure, but the tradeoff is that a lot of essential services are way farther away.

Discussion Pros Vs. Cons of City Life

I get what you’re saying about the noise, but honestly I think a lot of people exaggerate how bad it is. You kind of get used to it after a while. The convenience of having everything nearby makes up for a lot in my opinion.

Discussion Pros Vs. Cons of City Life

Yeah that’s actually a really good point. I think a lot of people imagine city benefits as just restaurants and entertainment, but stuff like emergency response time is way more important. If something serious happens you don’t want to be waiting 40 minutes for help to show up.

Discussion Everyday Objects That Seriously Need a Redesign

Someone needs to make a “rage-free everyday objects” line and just call it a day. I’d buy everything.

Discussion Everyday Objects That Seriously Need a Redesign

And chairs! Public chairs, office chairs, classroom chairs… all basically torture devices. How is this allowed?

Discussion Fast Fashion Is Ruining Clothing Quality

Honestly, even just being aware of it helps. You start noticing which brands are trashy versus which actually make decent stuff.

Discussion Fast Fashion Is Ruining Clothing Quality

That’s why I’ve been trying thrift stores lately. You get clothes that last longer and it’s way more sustainable.

Discussion Websites That Force You to Make an Account

Honestly, I don’t mind accounts if I’m gonna use the site a lot, but forcing it immediately? That’s a terrible first impression.

Discussion Why are Electric Scooters Everywhere

Yeah, or a deposit system where people get fined if they leave scooters lying around. Make it financially painful, problem solved.

Discussion Why are Electric Scooters Everywhere

Scooters are fun and all, but some people clearly have zero common sense. They’re basically the skateboards of 2026, but with electric speed.

    Discussion Tax Loopholes and Ethicality

Transparency doesn’t magically make it ethical. Telling people “we pay zero in taxes legally lol” isn’t morally clean, it’s just rubbing it in.

Discussion Should People be Able to Keep Native?

Yep. At the end of the day, wild animals are wild for a reason. Admire them, help them when injured, but don’t try to make them house pets
  15. KevinH

Discussion Should People be Able to Keep Native?

I think it really depends on the species. A raccoon or fox is way too unpredictable for most people. Even if you raise them from babies, they’re still going to act wild in ways that could be dangerous.

Discussion Back to Basics for Education!!

The biggest issue for me is transparency with parents. Whether someone agrees or disagrees with gender identity discussions in school, parents probably shouldn’t feel like they’re being left out of major things happening with their kids. That creates distrust really fast. At the same time, I...

Discussion Dollar Stores are a Scam

Yeah, the quality of everything now has just gone to shit. We really need to stop purchasing all of this crap from these companies because it just encourages them to put more slop onto the market.

Man, I just bring my own snacks now. Sandwiches, protein bars… at least it tastes like food and I’m not risking my stomach.

    Discussion Does Power Always Corrupt?

Yeah, that’s why I think regular checks and limits are so important. If there’s no one to question decisions, even a well-intentioned person can start making selfish or harmful choices without realizing it.
  20. KevinH

    Discussion Does Power Always Corrupt?

I’d add that some systems encourage corruption more than others. If there are no checks or transparency, even a good person might make decisions that are technically wrong just because there’s no oversight.

Discussion Dollar Stores are a Scam

Exactly! That’s what I’m talking about. It’s not a “deal” if it breaks immediately. They make it seem like you’re saving money, but you end up spending more trying to replace the junk they sold you. Dollar Stores are basically a trap.
  22. KevinH

Discussion Dollar Stores are a Scam

I don’t know how people still fall for this, but Dollar Stores are basically a giant scam. They sell cheap, low-quality products that break immediately, yet people keep lining up to spend their money there. Sponges that fall apart after one use, plastic containers that crack the first time you...

    Discussion Canada's Two Party Circus

Honestly, I get where you’re coming from. It really does feel like everything is turning into “pick a side and defend it no matter what.” I’ve noticed that even when someone brings up a valid criticism about their own party, people jump on them like they’ve betrayed the team. That’s not healthy...

Discussion Should Jury Duty Be Optional?

One thing that might help is better compensation. I’ve heard that in a lot of places jurors only get paid a small amount per day, which can make it hard for people who rely on their regular paycheck. If people were compensated fairly, they might feel less frustrated about being called in
  25. KevinH

Discussion Should Jury Duty Be Optional?

I think it should stay mandatory. The whole point of a jury is that it represents everyday people from the community. If it were optional, you’d probably only get people who are really interested in law or have a lot of free time, and that wouldn’t be very balanced

    Discussion Should Billionaires Exist?

Yeah, I get that. But I also see the argument that billionaires can create jobs, fund research, and even donate to charity. If they didn’t exist, some of those benefits might disappear. It’s complicated

Discussion Modern Life Moves Too Fast

That’s a good point. Maybe the real challenge isn’t slowing technology down, but learning how to set boundaries with it so it doesn’t control our time.
  28. KevinH

Discussion Modern Life Moves Too Fast

I think modern life definitely moves too fast sometimes. With phones and social media, it feels like people are expected to be available all the time. Even when you’re supposed to be relaxing, there’s always another notification or message popping up.

    Discussion Genetic Engineering Is Controversial

I get that, but the part that worries me is where the line gets drawn. If we start with preventing diseases, that seems reasonable. But once the technology exists, what stops people from wanting to edit other traits like intelligence, height, or appearance?

Discussion Should Schools Make Financial Literacy Mandatory

I wonder if they could also cover investing basics. Even a little knowledge about stocks, retirement accounts, or interest compounding could give students a head start.
  31. KevinH

Discussion Should Schools Make Financial Literacy Mandatory

I think it also depends on how the class is taught. If it’s just a bunch of lectures, students probably won’t remember anything. But if they get to do real-life scenarios, like creating a budget or tracking expenses, it could actually stick.

Discussion Is It Ever Justified to Break the Law?

That’s a good point. Accepting the consequences is actually part of what gives civil disobedience credibility. If someone is willing to face punishment to highlight an unjust law, it can make people question whether the law itself is the real problem.
  33. KevinH

Discussion Is It Ever Justified to Break the Law?

But the tricky part is that everyone thinks their cause is justified. One person might say they’re breaking a law because it’s immoral, while someone else might say the same thing about a completely different issue. That’s where it gets dangerous. If every group decides they’re morally right and...

Discussion Is Owning Exotic Pets Ethical?

Kameron makes good points about captive-bred reptiles and fish. I guess the real ethical line is whether the animal’s needs can actually be met. If they can’t, it’s irresponsible. If they can, and the animal is safe and healthy, then I don’t see a problem.

Discussion Are 4-Day Work Weeks Actually Sustainable?

Do you mind if I include this conversation in my Broadcast because I think it has good application, check DM's @istara
  36. KevinH

Discussion Are 4-Day Work Weeks Actually Sustainable?

Yeah, but only if companies don’t start overloading the 4 days. Otherwise it just turns into “5 days of stress, squished into 4.” Management has to actually commit to this, not just the marketing spiel.
  37. KevinH

Discussion Are 4-Day Work Weeks Actually Sustainable?

Honestly, I love the idea. Having an extra day off would make a huge difference for mental health and personal projects. The real question is whether managers can actually enforce boundaries and prevent people from just working longer hours on the other four days.

Discussion Is Job Hopping the New Normal?

For a long time, staying with one company for many years was seen as a sign of loyalty and stability. People often built entire careers at the same organization, slowly moving up through promotions and gaining seniority over time. But that trend seems to be changing. In today’s job market, it’s...

Discussion Is Remote Work Actually Better for Productivity?

Also, don’t forget that remote work depends on your environment. Some people have quiet spaces and fast internet, others are in tiny apartments with kids or roommates everywhere. Productivity isn’t just personal, it’s situational.
  40. KevinH

Discussion Is Remote Work Actually Better for Productivity?

I think it depends on the team culture. I’ve seen fully remote teams that are crushing it because they have clear processes and regular check-ins. Then there are some in-person teams where people are in the office 9–5 but literally get nothing done. Remote work isn’t inherently better or worse...

    Discussion Ethical Advertising

That actually raises another point though. If companies are going to use that much data to target people, shouldn’t there at least be clearer transparency about what data is being used?
  42. KevinH

    Discussion Ethical Advertising

Honestly I think a lot of people underestimate how much psychology is already baked into advertising. Things like limited-time offers, countdown timers, “only 3 left in stock,” etc. are all designed to trigger urgency. It works, but it definitely feels like it pushes the line sometimes.

Discussion Should Residents Be Incentivized to Participate?

Exactly, Charlotte. If people feel like they’re shouting into a void, no amount of rewards will matter. There needs to be follow-through from the city itself.
  44. KevinH

Discussion Should Residents Be Incentivized to Participate?

Honestly, I like the idea of incentives. A lot of people care about their community but just don’t have the time or energy. Even small rewards could tip the scale and get more people involved.
  45. KevinH

Discussion How Should Florida Handle Invasive Species?

Yeah Charlotte, totally. Prevention is key. But I think a hybrid approach works best: remove the biggest offenders while educating the public to avoid future problems. Otherwise we’re just chasing the same issues over and over.

Discussion Will College still Matter in 20 Years?

I have been reading around from articles that are both new and old and I have been seeing a scary theme that barchlors degrees will become more and more obsolete in the future because of AI but also because they want a more diverse workforce, I still expand below: For many decades, a college or...

Discussion Are Farmers Safe In Canada?

Both of you make good points. I think the biggest value of something like the NCI is that it keeps issues in the public eye. Even if it’s not an official inquiry, it can still push conversations that governments might otherwise avoid. With the farmland issue, for example, a lot of people in...

Discussion Canada’s Response to the War: Is It the Right?

I see both sides, but I lean toward caution and diplomacy being the safer path. The Middle East is volatile, and Canada doesn’t have troops involved, yet we’re still putting ourselves in the spotlight by supporting strikes. That could make us a target for backlash or complicate our relationships...
