At the 11th hour the federal government of Canada put in a challenge to the court of appeals for the emergencies act ruling. Two lower courts have already declared that the government acted unconstitionally.
I think the government is doing this because the present ruling will open a can of worms for the government. People will be able to sue the government for damages in the millions.
I was listening to Candice Malcolm on Juno News. She had Sam Cooper (an independant investigative journalist that is a Canadian) on the show. He said that during the Trucker Convoy, he had a very strong source from the RCMP that informed him directly that the Trudeau government was pressuring the RCMP to put events into the timeline to give the government a reason to invoke the emergencies act. He also said that since he was given this information there has been a report come out that confirms the information he received.
Sam Cooper also reminded the viewers that Carney was a very strong advocate of "cracking down on the convoy".
The point was being made that if you came from a certain ideology, the government would come after you.

I have been saying for a few years now that I do not like the direction that Canada is heading, do you?

I saw this article come up onto my feed yesterday, and the thing is, it's not new news. Anyone who was remotely in the know during this event knows Canada acted unconstitutionally. They were afraid of the potential backlash they would receive if the masses of people understood what they were truly doing. Definitely not a fan of the direction Canada is heading though.

yeah honestly that’s kinda where I’m at too. like even if you didn’t agree with the convoy, the way the government handled it felt… off. it’s more about the precedent than the event itself imo

I get what you're saying, but I think people forget how chaotic that situation actually was. like it wasn’t just a peaceful protest at all times. the government probably felt they had to act quickly

^ but acting “quickly” doesn’t mean ignoring rights though. That’s the whole point people are making. If they can do it once, what stops them next time?

I feel like both sides exaggerate a bit. like yeah maybe the government overstepped, but saying they’re targeting people based on ideology sounds kinda extreme

But that’s exactly what people are worried about. If reports are actually confirming pressure on the RCMP, that’s not just exaggeration, that’s serious

I think the scary part is the legal side of it tbh. If courts already said it was unconstitutional twice, why keep pushing it? That’s what makes it feel like they’re hiding something

Or they just don’t agree with the ruling? Governments appeal stuff all the time, that part isn’t weird by itself

Yeah but appealing THIS specifically is what makes people question it. Like what are they trying to protect? money? reputation? both?

Probably both lol. If people start suing for damages that could get expensive real fast
I’m less worried about lawsuits and more about trust. like once people feel the government can just bend rules when it suits them, it’s hard to get that trust back

Exactly. it’s not even about convoy support at this point, it’s about whether rules actually mean anything
