Mark Carney just told us the country is at war!

Those were his words: "You're at war when you get attacked. We got attacked."

So here's my question: why are our MPs still at the cottage?

Trade negotiations with the Americans have collapsed. Washington has slapped on punishing new tariffs, Ottawa is preparing retaliation, and businesses across the country are staring down enormous uncertainty.

Tens of thousands of Canadian jobs are on the line. Yet Canadians still haven't been shown what Carney actually walked away from.

He says it was a bad deal. The Americans are telling a very different story.

So show us the deal.

You'll forgive me if I don't simply take Carney's word for it. We've been here before. And the last time the full story came out, it looked nothing like what we were first told.

That's why I've launched a petition demanding that Carney recall Parliament and put the documents on the table.

But before you sign it, let me show you why I don't trust a word of this.

Remember the Gordie Howe International Bridge? Canadians were given one version of events involving Carney and Trump, and then the real details started leaking out. Suddenly, the tidy story wasn't so tidy.

You don't get to declare an economic war, send the House home, and tell the people footing the bill to simply trust you.

Carney says walking away was the right decision. Then prove it on the floor of the Commons. Put the American demands on the record. Show Canadians exactly what was offered, what was rejected, and why.

And if this government really is staring down the loss of 80,000 Canadian jobs, the people whose salaries we pay should be at their desks trying to save them — not on the summer barbecue circuit.

Go to RecallParliament.com, sign the petition, and send Carney a message.

If Canada really is at war, Parliament shouldn't get a summer vacation.

Yours truly,

Sheila Gunn Reid

P.S. Carney wants us to accept that the most important economic relationship in our history has been upended — and that Canadians should prepare to suffer for it. I'm not buying it until he tables the documents. Add your name at RecallParliament.com and tell him to get back to work.
