The following information is a summary of some key points included in the September 21,2026 Canadian Taxpayers Federation report entitled Government Waste Special.

The government seems to have no regard for the Challenges everyday Canadians face. When it comes to payroll for government employees both executive and regular working employees, there seems to be no sense of value for money.
The following financial payroll information research has been prepared by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. It appears our elected people show no ability to compensate government employees based on performance and accomplishments targets.
The following information serves as an example only of the out-of-scale remuneration a vast number of government employees receive compared to non-government Canadian employees. The following examples make the point.
Have a great day.

Government Waste Special
The government seems to have no regard for the Challenges everyday Canadians face. When it comes to payroll for government employees both executive and regular working employees, there seems to be no sense of value for money.
The following financial payroll information research has been prepared by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. It appears our elected people show no ability to compensate government employees based on performance and accomplishments targets.
The following information serves as an example only of the out-of-scale remuneration a vast number of government employees receive compared to non-government Canadian employees. The following examples make the point.
- Why should former governor’s general receive an expense account of up to $206,00 annually for the rest of their lives.
- The federal government rubber-stamped pay raises for 78% of its employees last year despite the fact that barely half of government departments met their own self-imposed performance targets.
- Most federal bureaucrats take pay raises every year, about 385,000 federal employees took pay raises in 2024
- Government handed out more than one million pay raises between 2020 and 2023
- The government has continuously refused to disclose how much these pay hikes cost taxpayers
- Government executives pocketed nearly $202 million in bonuses last year
- Bonuses are given out willy nilly, even though departments barely meet half of their own performance targets. Bonuses for executives cost taxpayers $201.5 million in 2025. About 88% of government executives took a bonus last year and most take bonuses every year
- Even money-losing Crown Corporations like Canada Post handed out @30.8 million in executive and management bonuses in 2025 even after taxpayer funded bailout and losing nearly $1.6 billion.
- Canada Post refused to break down how much it gave its executives and refused to disclose what bonuses cost for its non-management staff.
- Don’t you find it infuriating that Crown corporation executives think they are entitled to bonuses when they are hemorrhaging money
- Becoming governor general is a bit like winning the lottery. The term is only 5-7 years long and for that they get treated as royalty (literally) not only during your term but for the rest of your life and beyond. Last year alone the 6 former generals racked up $550,000 in expenses
- All of the facts and figures I’ve cited above are a direct result of investigative work undertaken by the CTF. This work would have been undertaken by media in a free and democratic society
- The legacy print media is either owned or subsidized by the federal government. Good luck finding a journalist who is willing to bite the hand that feeds them. Would you?
Have a great day.
