The question for the WCDSB (Waterloo Catholic District School Board) was:

What are your top 3 priorities to address for the children this term in office?

There are 4 candidates to be chosen for the october 26th election.

Fiaschetti, Janice
RESPONSE
Here is my answer to your question.

My Top 3 Priorities as School Board Trustee

1. Strong Partnerships through Open Communication First, we need to understand what's actually happening in our schools. That means real conversations with parents, teachers, and staff, not just one-way announcements. Let's figure out what's working great, what's not so great. Solutions can only emerge when all stakeholders are involved in the conversation. We can't fix problems we don't fully understand.

2. Safe Classrooms, Full Stop Kids can't learn if they don't feel safe. Teachers can't teach if they're worried too. Safety isn't negotiable, it's the foundation everything else sits on. I'll keep working with families and staff to make the learning environment safe.

3. Get Back to Basics. Effective, Balanced Curriculum. Our children need to be competitive on a global stage.

That means:
1. Returning to fundamentals: reading, writing, and arithmetic
2. Promoting practical pathways like trades and entrepreneurship
3. Developing independent thinkers who are realistic, hardworking, and productive citizens
4. Keeping political ideology out of the classroom so students can focus on learning
5. Exploring diverse approaches, including nature-based learning, to make education engaging again

Bottom line: I believe in keeping an open mind, exploring all options, and putting the fun back into learning while preparing our children to be happy, productive members of society.

Thank you,

Janice Fiaschetti

RESPONSE
My 3 priorities are the following:
The safety in the classroom for children and teachers.

This rolls into the second one, the mental health of children and how this is affecting their schooling.I also believe that even though our role as trustees has been limited by the government, we as a board should still advocate and press

the provincial government for more supports for teachers in the classroom. Especially more educational assistants and material resources.

Should I be elected to the board I would like our first job to be to find out from parents, students and teachers what is actually going on in the
classrooms. And improve in areas where we can so that each child is able to learn and grow.
I understand that we have over 48,000 teachers in the province who have left the profession due to burn out and classroom problems including violence, lack of material resources to teach the courses they are asked to teach and a lack of education assistants to help with special needs children

There also seems to be a lack of money so that classroom sizes can be smaller and teachers and students not feel overwhelmed or left behind.

I think it is my job as a trustee to first listen to all involved in the education of children today, the parents, the teachers, the EA's, the students and then advocate to the provincial government to ensure we have the money and material resources we need to address the problems.

RESPONSE
Thank you so much for reaching out.

I would be happy to answer for you.
My top three priorities are:

1. Making sure kids in our schools (mine included) get a real, solid, and grounded education.I don't want unnecessary (let alone "harmful") social messaging taking away from their ability to learn real skills and the foundations they need to be happy, successful adults and productive members of society. Parents and children should expect real, authentic Catholic teaching coming out of our Catholic education system.

2. Safe schools are not negotiable. There is no reason to accept abuse and violence as expected, either as a teacher or as a student in our schools.

3. Healthy, positive and respectful communication
I love people. Parents, students, educators and administration are all God's children and we should be able to communicate clearly and respectfully, even on subjects where we greatly disagree. For the sake of our children, we need to be able to work with each other, treat each other with love and dignity, and strive to bring out the best in all of us.

I hope this answers your questions.
By all means send over any more questions you have.

Thank you again so much.
I really appreciate you and I hope I've earned your support.

Have a wonderful day
