In Florida, invasive snakes like Burmese pythons have become a serious threat to native wildlife. Videos of hunters capturing these giant reptiles have gone viral on social media, and many people have been inspired to try it themselves.

But there’s a growing problem: not all snakes are harmless. Some species, like the Eastern coral snake, are venomous, and inexperienced hunters often don’t know how to identify them. Social media tutorials or viral posts often oversimplify the danger, making it look easy or safe when it isn’t.

The result? Accidents happen. People get bitten, injured, or even hospitalized, all because they underestimated the risks. Beyond personal danger, untrained handling can also stress the animal, harm the ecosystem, or spread invasive species further.

There is a fine line between helping an hurting, and uneducated people without the help of a guide put themselves and the native species of Florida at risk for social media.

Now the question is, should social media platforms take action against unsafe wildlife practices in order to discourage other people from performing the same acts?

I agree totally, there are a lot of dangerous practices promoted online all because of the fact that doing stupid stuff gets views which generates money. When you do something that is obviously stupid and dangerous it gets people to watch. That in turn rewards the bad behavior and pushes it onto more people and basically motivated people to reciprocate the same dangerous behavior.

In order to stop these practices it is up to the people who watch the videos to stop giving them attention and views until they practice things more safely in order to protect themselves and protect other people.

And for your point about social media platforms taking action against it, there are a lot of platforms that will demonetize (not allow you to collect money) from videos that are displaying dangerous practices: this can be with animals or just in general. That being said it still brings attention to their channel so when people watch their monetized videos they can collect money anyways. So, I think that the only way to go for this kind of stuff would be to fully demonetize their channels so that way they cannot make money if they show unsafe practices.
