Municipal Watch is a Canadian organization founded by Stella Ambler. Stella has been involved in federal and provincial politics for 37 years. She came to realize how much authority and spending power is held at the municipal level of government and how little attention is paid to what goes on in town and city halls. She further thought that the actions of municipal officials are often left unchecked and opposing voices are rare and often go unheard. Also there is no "official oppostion " to hold municipal governments to account. She feels that there is a need to expose bad decisions and policies at the municipal level. Her goal is to persuade our municipal governments to focus on efficient service, to deliver better quality of life for everyday working taxpayers. The website is municipalwatch.ca Here is a recent article from their site.

Carney’s Influence on Canadian Municipalities: Driving Net Zero

I agree that municipal governments need opposition outside of just residents alone, I like how with the federal system the official opposition holds them accountable. The main issue is that we would then be spending even more money on employing the official opposition to the municipal government UNLESS it was a group of volunteers, but if that was the case I would agree that the quality of their opposing statements would not be as good as someone who is paid to make them by the municipal government.
