Discussion Waterloo Region Information Archive

According to the City of Kitchener website as of February 6, 2026 , "Climate change is a global problem with local impacts. Local climate change projections indicate that our climate is already changing and that our local weather will be warmer, wetter and more extreme." (Hard to believe with the winter we are having, with a low of -21C tonight). Is this projection true? What can we see with our own eyes?
Maybe we could question this narrative and zoom out a bit. If we look at recent research from the journal Science on September 20, 2024 this graph was shared about the fact that we are in a cooling period:

Lets ask ourselves, why the push for all the "climate initiatives" in Waterloo Region when we are actually in a documented cooling period? We know that the climate cycles and changes over hundreds of thousands of years. This has never been so keenly focused on before. When you look at the next graph, you can see that Canada only contributes to 1.5% of the total world Green House
Gas (GHG) emissions, and Waterloo Region is a tiny, tiny fraction of that.

According to "Transform Waterloo Region" there is a push to reduce our GHGs by 80% by 2050 - but why? Waterloo Region contributes to 0.008% of the World's total GHGs. China and India have no such goals. By trying to reduce our GHG emissions in Waterloo Region by 80% by 2050, that means we will have to give up our private use of gasoline cars, air travel, gas stoves and more. Who voted for this?

We need to look at how much money the Region of Waterloo is spending on Climate Initiatives to reduce GHG's and ask if that money can be spent on more immediate, local issues like homelessness and our water supply constraint.

As we discuss "Localism over Globalism" with respects to the Kitchener 2051 plan, its helpful to be aware of the already existing Agenda 2030 set out by the United Nations.

Agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) seem to provide the framework for the Kitchener 2051 plan. Do we as a region, want this? What are the pros and cons of adopting a Global Agenda?

Its interesting how the mayor of Kitchener wears the same SDG pin as Bill Gates.

The City of Kitchener since 2015 (under the guidence of Mayor Barry Verbanovic) has been implementing policies that the United Nations has been producing. When you start comparing all of the different documents from the city with the United Nations, it becomes evident that Mayor Verbanovic has simply been doing a cut and paste from the nongovernmental organizations (NGO) to the city of Kitchener. I will guide you through the process that has been taking place.

The "sustainable" cities can also incorporate the wording of 15 minutes, because the goal is to have everything you need within that time frame. The method of travel preference to achieve this is "active transportation". In the Kitchener 2051 official plan schedule A: Glossary the definition of "active transportation" is:
human-powered travel, including but not limited to walking, cycling, inline skating and travel with the use of mobility aids, including motorized wheelchairs and other power-assisted devices moving at a comparable speed
Kitchener has partnered with The University of Waterloo/Conrad Grebel. The following study was done by Neluka Leanage and Pierre Filion from the School of Planning. It reinforces the United Nations 5 principle model of Sustainable cities and the 15 minute concept.

Penny Marie Claridge is from New Zealand. She was a guest speaker for the National Citizens Inquiry in Kitchener, 2025. Her research into the United Nations policies that have been integrated from the top down into our local education system show the uniformity of a thought process that has become mandated for teachers. She had been observing Canada and knew that what she saw in this country would soon be appearing in New Zealand. The following is her presentation.

Melanie Bennet is a reporter for True North (independant media) that specializes in Ontario's educational system. Her show is called "Disrupted". Her work can be followed through True North, Juno News, Youtube or substack.

It is vitally important to empower local communities to ensure transparency in accountable goverance. Effective goverance relies on open dialogue and respectful conduct, especially in public forums where citizens have the right to voice their opinions and concerns. While sustainable development is important, the allocation of funds must be balanced to address pressing urban issues such as housing, infastructure, water, and public safety.
 
Strategy 1.5:( This the plan for 15 minute cities in our Region)

Build compact urban and settlement areas that are efficient for energy, services, infrastructure, and transportation, and make existing and new communities “complete communities.” The amount of energy it takes to get around our communities depends heavily on the way they are built and designed. We can improve efficiency by planning and creating more complete communities, where goods, services, and employment can be reached conveniently by walking, cycling, or rolling. Emissions from conventional vehicles are also reduced as a result of less distance travelled. These are also known as “15-minute communities.” More compact communities that use less energy for transportation help us use less energy to provide services and build infrastructure, further reducing emissions. This must be a key consideration for land use planning. A 15-minute community is where people can meet their daily needs for goods, services, and employment using active transportation, within a short walk, bike ride, or roll.

Are you aware of 15-minute cities coming to Canada and Waterloo Region. Please look it up.

Briefly – we will all live in districts encouraged to walk, bike, roll or take transit within 15 minutes from your house.

-only leave your district a few times a year –may have to pay for a permit

-barriers may be set up with cameras for facial recognition or license plates

-your area may be closed to pollution emitting cars, fewer cars, and parking - more control

-encourage people to live in stack and pack cities not in the country

-cities signing on to program receive $10,000.00 signing bonus

15 Minute Cities- Questions We Need to Be Asking of Our Government Officials

If you or a group can attend a city council meeting, or a regional council meeting and you actually have a chance to speak to the group these might be some of the questions you might want to ask. So many questions, so many unanswered questions which we as citizens of this region need to have answered honestly and acutely. As Vincent Gircys has said a cover letter needs to be read to the council. It needs to be in plain English with a punch in the face dose of reality. He went on to suggest the following questions which we can definitely add to.

1.Where is the money coming from to influence how we are going to completely change the way we live?

2. How does this improve those values we care about most, those that make us human...... putting a strong emphasis on family, friendships, trust v.s. surveillance etc.

3.What does the surveillance in these districts look like? Will every aspect of our lives be monitored and why? Who gave you our representatives the right to lock us up and trace, track and control us? Aren’t you all elected to serve us and our needs?

5.What other control mechanisms will be put in place and why?

6.What data harvesting of our personal information will be done?

7. Will there be all the services we need daily for us and our families in our so called districts e.g. grocery stores, hospitals, doctors specialists, arenas, churches, gas stations, malls dentists senior citizen homes etc.?

8. What if you own a cottage? What if your child is on a travelling hockey team? What about sports tournaments? What if your family or aging parents live in B.C. or Nova Scotia etc? Are we going to lose our freedom and God given right to travel?

9. Why are we turning our world as we know it upside down at tremendous expense both constitutionally and financially at this time?

10. Will we be in a permanent winter lockdown in Canada in the winter trying to ride our bikes through the snow?

11. If we are to transition to electric vehicles, the cost benefit analysis is yet to be proven.

12. Who decided that 15 minute cities are what we want for our community? Did we vote on this? What NGO's were involved in this decision? Are these groups local groups or international groups who have no right to make these decisions for us and our community? Who are you working for the citizens of this community who elected you to represent us or these foreign entities the Non Governmental Organizations's?

Climate Emergency? - According to the Region of Waterloo Climate Action Milestone Timeline a climate emergency declaration was made in 2019. Was there a real climate emergency in our Region at that time? Where is the evidence of such an emergency? Did the Region declare this because of direction from the provincial and federal governments? Is this so called climate emergency still in effect and if so why?

Hi Sharon,
These are good questions. Many scientists say there is no climate emergency, and there never has been one. But in Waterloo Region, this has to be an accepted narrative in order to push us towards accepting 15 minute cities and in reducing our gas consumption.
 
2 lawyers will be speaking today about the constitutional authority in Canada regarding land rights. This is an important topic since bill C-15 has passed and the high speed rail to Quebec has been announced. Land expropriations are scheduled to begin immediately.
